This episode of the "Alexander County Business Spotlight" features The Farmer's Daughter, a local family-owned farm and roadside market located at 2150 Friendship Church Road, Taylorsville, NC 28681.

Owner Amy Douglas, along with her husband Jason, opened the market in May 2008. The family farm has been in operation since 1875, and their children are the eighth generation to grow up there. The market actually began after a time of selling the farm's excess vegetables on a truck. Now, the family sells approximately 50 fruits and vegetables at the market.

The Farmer's Daughter is a North Carolina Farm Fresh Certified Roadside Farm Market.

"We grow 90 percent of what we sell here, and everything is locally grown," Amy related. "We pick fresh daily, so it's always fresh. It's fresh produce from our family to yours."

They also offer a Community Supported Agriculture Program, which helps connect the community to their farm. The program allows the public to commit to buying a weekly allotment of fruits and/or vegetables during the growing/harvest season.

The market offers agritourism and educational opportunities, as well as special events including an arts/crafts festival in May and pumpkin rides in the fall. Families are also encouraged to self-pick on the farm.

The Farmer's Daughter is open Monday through Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (May through September). For more information, call (828) 312-8137 or visit www.thefarmersdaughternc.com.
