I checked the soil temperature in the garden today with the hopes to get the Contender Green Beans in the ground to official start the green bean growing season. Taking several sample temperature from different areas of the garden and averaging them shows that my soil temperature is around 56 degrees. Too cool to plant green beans. Green Bean need to be planted in soil that is around 70 degrees to germinate best. If I planted today and the soil temperature does not rise over the next couple of days the seed would germinate slow and cause me problems.
Good article about soil temps for most seeds..... http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/archives/parsons/earthkind/ekgarden15.html
